Gold Medal ~ Sunset International Wine Competition

THE VINEYARD
Over the years, Brock has acquired and overseen six vineyard development projects for clients in Santa Barbara County.  Three of those have become very well-known – Rita’s Crown (Seasmoke Winery), Radian and Bentrock Vineyards (Hilt Winery).  All three are located in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, one of California’s coolest climate growing regions.  Foxtrot was the most recent one he acquired.  This young vineyard is adjacent to the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, on the ocean side.  Cherry-picking our Syrah block rows on this sand-based bench overlooking the valley floor vines, this 2022 vintage was the first harvest for the vines.  Brock is especially proud that this is the first vineyard designated wine from “his” Foxtrot Vineyard.  He is confident Foxtrot will become very well-known to wine buffs in the future.

WINEMAKING
The grapes were harvested early in the morning, transported via the Golden Gate Bridge to our custom crush facility in Sonoma. and enjoyed an overnight soak before being processed the next day.  2/3 of the grapes were destemmed, with 1/3 being whole cluster for fermentation.  Fermentation took place in a 1-ton fermentation bin.  After 10 days the must was gently pressed and then transferred to one new and one neutral French oak barrel.  The wine completed malolactic fermentation over the next two months, with the wines aging gracefully for an additional 15 months after.  Bottling without fining or filtering was done on March 23, 2024.
