2023 Grenache - Los Rocosos Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley (The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater)
WINEMAKING
These Grenache grapes were grown at Los Rocosos Vineyard in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. After transporting across state lines to the winery the grapes were fully destemmed. The fermentation process took place in two open topped plastic egg-shaped tanks which promote lees stirring during the fermentation and small amounts of oxygen as well. After pressing, the wine was transfered to one new barrel and two neutral barrels. The wine completed malolactic fermentation over the next two months and then the wine aged gracefully for 21 months in 54% New French Oak and was bottled on August 29, 2025.
VINEYARD
The Grenache is grown at Los Rocosos Vineyard in Milton-Freewater, OR. This area is know for its’ softball-sized cobblestones that were deposited by the Missoula Floods. The entire vineyard sits on Freewater Very Cobbly Loam with most of the cobbles sitting 12-18 inches below the soil surface. This is one of the most unique growing regions in the world.
